FED:Aust appalled at failure of UN Syria vote

CANBERRA, Feb 5 AAP - Australia is appalled by the failure of the UN Security Council
to adopt a resolution that would pave the way for a political transition in Syria and
stem violence against the Syrian people, Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd says.

Mr Rudd, who is in Dubai, said the government was deeply concerned at the disturbance
of the Syrian embassy in Canberra on Saturday night in which a group of dissidents broke
in and vandalised the chancery.
